Frequently Asked Questions
Certified Auto Glass Technician Exam

Who is eligible for NGA's Certified Auto Glass Technician exam?
Candidates for certification must have been employed as an auto glass technician for the appropriate number of months or years. The minimum requirements are:

*Certified Auto Glass Technician (CAGT): minimum of six months work experience in the auto glass industry as an auto glass installer.
*Certified Master Auto Glass Technician (CMAGT): minimum of three years work experience in the auto glass industry as an auto glass installer plus a valid Certified Auto Glass Technician certification.

What does it mean to be certified by the National Glass Association's Certified Auto Glass Technician Program?
As a certified NGA Auto Glass Technician, you have passed an NGA examination for the level(s) at which you are certified and that you have met industry standards for basic knowledge in the examination level you passed. You will receive a wallet identification card, six uniform patches, a certificate, a free subscription to AutoGlass(R) and access to "Certified Only" products.

How will I know when to renew my certification?
NGA certification requires renewal every three years. NGA will notify you and your employer in writing approximately 60-90 days before the expiration of your certification, so that you may renew your certification. If a candidate's certification status is still current at the time of renewal, the candidate can proceed to the next level. If a candidate's certification has expired by the time of renewal, the candidate must renew at the expired certification level.

What are the privileges of NGA certification?
NGA certified installers have the right to use (in accordance with specific licensing regulations) the credentials for the certification level you have achieved: Certified Auto Glass Technician (CAGT) or Master Auto Glass Technician (CMAGT); the right to display the appropriate uniform patch; the right to purchase optional certification products according to your certification level.

Why should my company's technicians be NGA certified?
Consumers are more comfortable with individuals who are licensed or certified. NGA is leading the way in the auto glass industry by providing a challenging certification program, which remains current and viable. This program helps ensure that those individuals wearing the "NGA Certified Patch" are knowledgeable technicians. Auto glass companies with NGA certified technicians can educate customers about the potential dangers for themselves and their loved ones by having glass repaired or replaced elsewhere.
