This fee entitles you to one examination registration and one copy of your examination results. Upon passing the exam you will receive: one copy of your certificate, one ID card, and six (6) NGA certified logo uniform patches.

Note: The entire exam fee will be forfeited if the candidate fails to appear for a scheduled exam or arrives late for a scheduled exam. The exam registration cannot be substituted for another candidate and is non-transferable.

Processing Fee: $75

This fee will be taken from your examination fee whether or not you are considered eligible to take the exam, or if you cancel your application before your exam date. Therefore, if you are deemed ineligible or cancel your application before noon, two days before your chosen exam date, you will receive a refund minus the $75 processing fee.

Insufficient Funds Fee: $25

If you pay your fee by credit card and your credit card company refuses to approve the charge, a $25 fee will be added to your total payment. Once a credit card payment has been denied, NGA will only accept payment by money order or certified check.

If your personal check does not clear, a $25 charge will be added and NGA will only accept subsequent payment by money order or certified check.

Note: Fees are always subject to change. It is your responsibility to make sure you have the most current copy of the Exam Handbook and that you submit the correct fee.

Testing Center Vouchers and Rebate Policy

NGA does not accept or issue testing vouchers as payment for a candidate to sit for any exam. Rebate coupons issued directly from the testing center for any exam will no longer be accepted or honored.

Accommodations for Candidates with Disabilities

If you need to make a special arrangement because of a disabling condition, you may ask for special testing services. This request must be included in writing with your registration packet. All requests are handled on an individual basis.

Several test sites have access for candidates with disabilities. If a candidate needs special testing arrangements due to impaired sensory, manual or speaking skills, or other disabilities, you must send NGA a letter from a licensed physician, optometrist, social worker, psychologist or other appropriate professional.

The letter must be written on the healthcare professional's letterhead and include the professional's title, license number, address and telephone number and the date. The letter must also include a diagnosis of the disabling condition, and explain why special accommodations are necessary. The letter must have an original signature from the professional and be dated no more than 5 years prior to the application. Faxes and photocopies will not be accepted.

If you need special accommodations because of a learning disability, you must submit official documentation regarding your disability to NGA. It may take some time to make special arrangements; NGA recommends that candidates make their requests as soon as possible. NGA will make every effort to assist, except when it may alter the examination or results, or if it causes an undue burden on the testing center.

Once the request for special accommodations has been approved, LaserGrade will decide upon the time and place of the specially arranged exam. LaserGrade will then let the candidate know directly about these arrangements.

An additional charge is required if an examination reader is requested as an accommodation for limited reading ability. All special arrangements are subject to the policies of NGA.

NGA Policy on Non-Discrimination

NGA does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, ethnic ancestry, national origin, religion, creed, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, medical condition, or physical disability.

Making your Exam Reservation

All eligible candidates will receive an authorization to test letter (ATT) which contains instructions of how to schedule an appointment to test. Carefully check your ATT. Your name, as it appears on your identification, must match the name the center has on file. The incorrect spelling of your name may result in being denied access to the test center and result in receiving the status of a "no-show" and forfeiture of your exam fee. If any information is incorrect, contact NGA's Certification Coordinator at 703-442-4890 ext. 134 prior to making your appointment to test.

When you receive your authorization to test letter you should call and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. The LaserGrade Central Registration Center at LaserGrade will help you schedule an appointment by calling 800/211-2753 or by going on the internet at www.lasergrade.com. Be sure you plan your exam date well in advance to give yourself adequate time to prepare for the exam. You should also pick alternate dates and times, just in case your first choice is not available. Exam appointments are subject to change if the test center is closed for some reason. Directions to the selected test center and the local phone number are provided when you make your examination reservation.

Rescheduling an Exam

To reschedule an exam, you must notify LaserGrade by noon two (2) days before your scheduled exam date.
Your rescheduled examination date must still fall within your original one year eligibility period. The full exam fee from your first reservation will be applied to your new exam date. You will not be able to change your reservation if it is later than noon two (2) days before your scheduled exam. If you do not reschedule within these guidelines, you will forfeit your entire exam fee. If you wish to reapply at a later date you will be required to submit a new registration form and all applicable fees.

Canceling the Exam

Immediately call LaserGrade's toll free number 800/211-2753 to cancel the appointment no later than noon two (2) days before your scheduled exam date.
If you do not cancel your exam you will be considered absent or a no-show and will forfeit all registration fees. If you want to reschedule, follow the above guidelines.

Failing to Appear for a Scheduled Exam

If on the day you are scheduled to take the exam you do not appear, you will lose the full exam fee. To take the exam in the future, you will need to resubmit your entire registration, with payment in full.

Deferrals/Special Circumstances

There are special circumstances that are acceptable for failing to appear for a scheduled exam without prior cancellation or rescheduling. Under special circumstances (i.e., medical emergency, birth of a child, death of an immediate family member), NGA may allow the candidate to reschedule. Special circumstances must either immediately precede or coincide with the administration of the exam. All such circumstances must include supporting documentation, such as a doctor's note. Approval of requests for deferral is granted on a case-by-case basis. You will need to submit your reason in writing to NGA within four (4) working days of the scheduled exam date. Only one deferral will be granted throughout the candidate's eligibility even if the candidate reapplies in the future.

NGA reserves the right to request additional evidence to support your reason for failing to appear.

Requesting a Refund

If you do not wish to take the exam within your one year of eligibility and would like a refund, you must make that request in writing and send it to the Certification Department, NGA, 8200 Greensboro Drive, Suite 302, McLean, VA 22102. Be sure to include your full name, address, social security number and signature. You will receive a refund of the registration fee, minus the $75 processing fee, following receipt of your written request. Your eligibility to take the exam will be cancelled and you will need to register as a new candidate and pay all applicable fees, if you decide to take the exam in the future.

Examination Day

What you need to bring on Exam Day:

Bring two forms of identification that have your signature, both must be in a current form (not expired) and one must contain a recent recognizable photograph.

  • Passport
  • Military ID
  • Driver's license
  • Other federal/state/county issued ID
  • Canadian Provincial Citizenship card

Please do not use a Social Security card in place of one of the above forms of ID. Social Security cards will not be accepted as a valid form of identification to gain access to the exam.

Reporting Time

You should arrive at the testing center at least 30 minutes before your scheduled examination time. This extra time is for signing in, identification, and familiarizing you with the examination process. If you arrive late, you may not be admitted to the examination site and you will forfeit your examination registration fee.

Late Arrival

Candidates who arrive late for their exam will lose their reservation and will be considered absent for the exam. Your registration will be invalid, you will not be able to take the examination as scheduled and you will forfeit your entire examination fee. The policy for "Failing to Appear for a Scheduled Exam" will apply. There are no exceptions to this rule. NGA will not be responsible for traffic or direction related issues that hinder you from arriving to the test center on time.

Bad Weather

The exam will be delayed or canceled only in extreme emergencies. If severe weather or a natural disaster makes the testing center inaccessible or unsafe, the exam will be canceled. Exams that are canceled by the testing center due to bad weather will be rescheduled as soon as possible without an additional charge. Candidates should call their local LaserGrade center during business hours to find out if the testing center is still open due to inclement conditions. If the test center has closed due to inclement conditions it is the responsibility of the candidate to contact LaserGrade to see when the exam has been rescheduled. Every effort will be made by the LaserGrade testing center to reschedule your examination at a convenient time as soon as possible.

Reporting Test Center Irregularities

Should you experience a delay in taking your examination or any technical problem, please make sure that this irregularity is documented by the test center administrator (TCA). This report is then forwarded to Chauncey Group International (CGI) and then to the National Glass Association (NGA). Test Center problems cannot be addressed at a later date and time without a written report from the test center.

Computer Based Testing

You will take your examination using Computer Based Training (CBT) technology. At the beginning of your examination a tutorial will be provided on how to take the test. Once you exit from the tutorial, you may not return to it. You are strongly encouraged not to bypass the tutorial. You will be instructed on how to provide responses to the questions that appear on the certification exam. No prior knowledge of computers or typing is needed to take the examination. Once the examination begins, you will have 90 minutes to complete it. At the end of the 90 minute exam session, the computer will automatically shut off causing the exam to end without an opportunity to review the exam any further.

The computerized examination allows you a one-time review at the end of the exam session. Once your allowed time has expired or you exit the examination, you cannot see or review those questions again. Upon your completion of the examination, you will receive your examination results. You will learn immediately whether you passed the examination.

You do not need extensive computer experience to take the exam. The benefits of computer based testing are:

  • Immediate score reporting
  • Online tutorials to guide you on the use of a computer to take an examination
  • The ability to mark questions as a reminder to review them at the end of the examination
  • Computer workstations that are equipped with a mouse (desktop, hand-operated device for selecting answers and other options from your computer screen)
  • The ability to track and display the time remaining on the exam
  • The availability of fully trained proctors during your exam for technical assistance (not related to exam content)

Exam Security

Any candidate who gives (or receives) help to others during the exam will be asked to leave the testing center. Anyone involved in such behavior will be reported to the National Glass Association and his/her exam will not be scored. Examination fees will not be refunded and the candidate may be permanently prohibited from retaking the certification exam.

The performance of all candidates is monitored and may be analyzed to detect fraud. This data is given to the National Glass Association. Candidates who violate security measures will not have their exams scored.
