Certified Auto Glass Technician Exam

Who is eligible for NGA's Certified Auto Glass Technician exam?
Candidates for certification must have been employed as an auto glass technician for the appropriate number of months or years. The minimum requirements are:

*Certified Auto Glass Technician (CAGT): minimum of six months work experience in the auto glass industry as an auto glass installer.
*Certified Master Auto Glass Technician (CMAGT): minimum of three years work experience in the auto glass industry as an auto glass installer plus a valid Certified Auto Glass Technician certification.

What does it mean to be certified by the National Glass Association's Certified Auto Glass Technician Program?
As a certified NGA Auto Glass Technician, you have passed an NGA examination for the level(s) at which you are certified and that you have met industry standards for basic knowledge in the examination level you passed. You will receive a wallet identification card, six uniform patches, a certificate, a free subscription to AutoGlass(R) and access to "Certified Only" products.

How will I know when to renew my certification?
NGA certification requires renewal every three years. NGA will notify you and your employer in writing approximately 60-90 days before the expiration of your certification, so that you may renew your certification. If a candidate's certification status is still current at the time of renewal, the candidate can proceed to the next level. If a candidate's certification has expired by the time of renewal, the candidate must renew at the expired certification level.

What are the privileges of NGA certification?
NGA certified installers have the right to use (in accordance with specific licensing regulations) the credentials for the certification level you have achieved: Certified Auto Glass Technician (CAGT) or Master Auto Glass Technician (CMAGT); the right to display the appropriate uniform patch; the right to purchase optional certification products according to your certification level.

Why should my company's technicians be NGA certified?
Consumers are more comfortable with individuals who are licensed or certified. NGA is leading the way in the auto glass industry by providing a challenging certification program, which remains current and viable. This program helps ensure that those individuals wearing the "NGA Certified Patch" are knowledgeable technicians. Auto glass companies with NGA certified technicians can educate customers about the potential dangers for themselves and their loved ones by having glass repaired or replaced elsewhere.

Online Certification Exams

Are the exams given online different from the exams given onsite at a LaserGrade Testing Center?
No, they are the same exams with the same amount of time allotted for each exam. Online test candidates should study the same reference material that is recommended for on-site testing.

What are the differences between taking the exams online versus on-site?
There are four major differences between taking the exams online versus on-site.

1) The supervisor of the test candidate must agree to proctor the exam and that the exam will take place at the shop where the candidate is employed during regular working hours. The supervisor further agrees he/she will ensure the candidate does not receive assistance of any kind while taking the exam.
2) When taking the exams online, the test candidate is not able to go back and forth between questions to review his answers. The candidate is allotted 60 seconds to answer each question during an online exam. For on-site testing (LaserGrade Testing Center), the candidate has 90 minutes to complete the exam, during which time he may review his test answers and spend more than 60 seconds on a particular question.
3) To ensure the identity of the test candidate he will be asked several identifying questions when he completes his registration form. During the online exam those questions will appear in a random sequence. If the online test candidate does not answer the identifying questions during the exam exactly as they are answered on his registration form, he automatically fails the exam. After such an occurrence, online examinations will not be available to the test candidate. If the test candidate wishes to pursue certification he will have re-register (including payment) to take the exam at a LaserGrade Testing Center.
4) The price of taking the online exam is more affordable than taking it at a LaserGrade Testing Center! NGA Members regular price for an online certification exam is $129 versus $169.95.

Am I able to take the Certified Auto Glass Technician/Master “Combo” Exam online?
Yes! The test candidate must complete the registration form for the Technician & Master level exam. NGA Members may take the “combo” exam for $258.
