NATIONAL GLASS ASSOCIATION PRESENTS AWARD TO BRUCE GATES

WASHINGTON, DC  (June 10, 2005) – The National Glass Association (NGA) has announced Bruce Gates of Gates Brothers Glass Shops of Ohio as the 2005 recipient of the Len Stolk Special Achievement Award. The award was presented to Gates during the Opening Session at the National Auto Glass Conference & EXPO held May 23-25, 2005 in Minneapolis, MN.

Well known in the auto glass industry for his commitment to safety, Gates is a deserved recipient of this year's award. He began in the auto glass industry as a youngster by working after school in his parent's auto glass business. In 1972, Gates and his brother, Tom took over the business from their parents. Around that same time, Gates also began working with the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty, OH and developed a keen appreciation of the role that windshields play in vehicle safety. In the mid-1980's, he began doing windshield installation demonstrations for the Ohio Glass Association, which eventually led him to become an instructor; first at the Carlite Technical School in Dearborn, MI and then for the NGA's Auto Glass Technical Institute, where he is still instructing today. In accepting the award, Gates told attendees, "I've always said that we need to take what we know and give back to our customers and employees." He lives in Huntsville, OH and enjoys spending time with his wife Diana, daughters Melissa and Heather, and grandson Joshua. Photos of the award presentation can be found at www.glass.org/press/gates.htm.

NGA's Len Stolk Special Achievement Award is named in honor of Len Stolk, who passed away in 1999. Stolk was well known for his commitment to auto glass safety and highly regarded by his industry peers. The award is presented to recognize individuals in the glass industry who have made a significant contribution to the goals and objectives of the NGA.
