WASHINGTON, DC (August 9, 2007) – The National Glass Association announced today that it has partnered with Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana to offer its groundbreaking on-line training program, MyGlassClass.com, to students. Ivy Tech is Indiana’s second largest post-secondary institution, serving more than 105,000 students per year. It will offer the on-line courses at its South Bend, Elkhart and Warsaw campuses.
“One of the key roles of community colleges is to help cultivate the workforce of tomorrow, and MyGlassClass.com is an efficient and cost-effective way to do that,” said David Walker, the NGA’s Vice President of Association Services. “We are extremely proud to partner with such a well-respected institution to help introduce students to the many exciting careers available to them in the glass industry.”
“We see this partnership as an important way to help train the workforce of tomorrow as well as help promote glass industry careers as exciting options for students,” Walker continued. “We encourage all glass businesses to contact their local technical schools to demonstrate their support for such programs. This is a win-win situation for all—NGA provides the curriculum, technical schools supply the location, local businesses supply the students and consumers reap the benefits of highly-skilled glass professionals.”
“Offering MyGlassClass.com courses as part of our curriculum helps us achieve our mission of providing challenging, high-quality educational choices for our students,” said Jean Perrin, Executive Director of Workforce and Economic Development at Ivy Tech. “Our students will truly benefit from the in-depth and wide-ranging content of this program.”
MyGlassClass.com was launched in June 2006 and offers more than 100 courses specifically designed for both the auto and flat glass industry, ranging from safety instruction to professional development to industry certification. It was developed in partnership with leaders in the glass industry and will be continually updated and enhanced to reflect industry needs.
