WASHINGTON, DC (September 30, 2009) – In a significant development for window and door dealers throughout North America, the new Window & Door Dealers Alliance (WDDA) was launched today at GlassBuild America. Formed solely for the purpose of serving a critical, yet overlooked, segment of the industry, the WDDA is poised to offer a national, unifying platform for like-minded dealers.

The WDDA will represent the interests of retail, wholesale and installing dealers of new and replacement residential windows, doors, skylights and related building products. It will develop training and educational resources for member companies and provide meetings, trade shows, seminars and publications to advance the professionalism of industry participants.

"The WDDA has been a long time coming, and we are very pleased that the WDDA has stepped into this void to fill a very important need within our industry," said Vaughn McCourt, director of operations for Penguin Windows, and a member of the alliance's organizing committee. "We have high expectations for this group, and we are confident that our fellow dealers across the nation will quickly embrace the alliance."

Among the planned initiatives is a new Window & Door Dealers Forum, patterned after the NGA's popular Glazing Executives Forum. The new forum will hold its inaugural event in conjunction with GlassBuild America 2010 in Las Vegas, scheduled for September 14-16.

"A national forum for our industry has been sorely lacking, so this event will be a welcome addition for all our dealer brethren," said Larry Meadows, CEO of American Exteriors, another charter member of the WDDA organizing committee. "The forum will not only offer best practices that will improve each of our businesses, but it will serve as a powerful unifying force for bringing our segment of the industry together."

The WDDA has been under development for more than a year, driven by leaders in the dealer industry with support from the NGA staff. The first official organizing committee of the alliance was held today at GlassBuild America in Atlanta.

"This is an important initiative of the National Glass Association, and we are very pleased to have played a role in bringing it to fruition," said David Walker, NGA's vice president of association services. "We look forward to delivering outstanding products and services to this critical segment for many years to come."
