Bird collisions with building glass represent one of the leading human-caused sources of avian mortality in North America. Birds provide critical ecosystem services including pest control, pollination, and seed dispersal. Their decline has measurable consequences for ecological health, food systems, and human welfare. This presentation equips participants to apply bird-friendly glazing strategies to reduce collision risk while preserving daylighting and occupant views. Participants will review the science behind avian collision behavior, evaluate prescriptive and performance-based compliance pathways, and survey the rapidly expanding federal, state, and municipal regulatory landscape governing bird-safe building design.
