NGA Leads International Year of Glass Activities

Planning for activities begins this week at the NGA Glass Conference in California

NGA is an official sponsor of IYOG

2022 has been designated as the International Year of Glass (IYOG) by the United Nations General Assembly. NGA has supported the worldwide effort since the campaign’s inception and is leading the efforts for architectural glass activities and promotion in the United States. Planning for designated IYOG activities is being discussed at the NGA Glass Conference,  taking place this week in Long Beach, California.

IYOG will celebrate the essential role glass has in society, serving as a life-changing material in architecture, the environment, healthcare, science, technology and more. The campaign was led by the International Commission on Glass (ICG), along with the Community of Glass Associations (CoGA), of which NGA is a member, and the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Glass (ICOM-Glass). Urmilla Sowell, NGA’s director of advocacy and technical services, is currently serving on the IYOG 2022 North American Steering Committee.

“It’s our year and it’s our time to show the world how glass is adaptable, sustainable, energy-efficient, strong, beautiful, and safe—in a word, essential,” said NGA President & CEO Nicole Harris. “I look forward to celebrating the glass and glazing industry with others around the world, and especially here at home.”

The year’s activities officially begin with a two-day opening event at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, Feb. 9-11, 2022. Throughout the year, NGA will promote the solutions glass provides to the built environment and spotlight the glass industry as an exciting and rewarding career to the next generation of workers.
