In September, 250 career and technical education students from Clark County, Nevada, attended GlassBuild America for NGA’s See Yourself in Glass event, an introduction to the products, companies, and career opportunities within the glass industry.

“Parents and students alike increasingly question the value of a four-year degree. The glass and glazing industry offers an alternative path to a rewarding, fulfilling career that begins immediately after high school, and events like this give students a firsthand look at opportunities,” says Lakisha A. Woods, CAE, president and CEO of the National Glass Association.

Fourteen exhibitors took part in the Career Discovery Trail, showing students the range of products and capabilities across the industry and the jobs behind them. A Skills Challenge gave students hands-on practice in installation, inspection, technique, and more.

“You see glass everywhere, but you don’t really know too much about it,” says Izabella C., a sophomore who attended. “This field is huge, and I’m very open-minded about what I want to do in the future.”
